US technology company Apple announced its decision to cancel the AirPower wireless charging mat project
MOSCOW US technology company Apple announced its decision to cancel the AirPower wireless charging mat project.
“After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch.
We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward,” Dan Riccio, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, said in a statement, e-mailed to The Verge, on Friday.
The tech news outlet suggested that the mat had engineering problems which might result in charging devices being overheated.
The outlet also noted that Apple had made its decision to abandon the project so recently that new AirPod wireless headphone sets had references to AirPower and pictures of the device.
The project was initially announced in September 2017.
